I remember reading one of Maddox’ rants titled “One thing PC users do that Mac users cant:”. In this post , dated circa 2007, Maddox attacks the sense of community that, for some reason, Mac users acquired once they own an Apple product. In his post, he provides the following quote to proof this:

“After the recent Apple conference, Mac fans were elated. One person was quoted as saying “I’ve had a Macintosh now for a total of 35 days, and I’m really excited to be part of the Mac community.”

Yes! part of the Mac community. (sidenote: for all you youngins out there that do not understand why it was called the Mac community and not the Apple community is because long ago Apple only made computer and they were called Macintosh).

This has been true from Apple’s early days. Apple placed themselves as the alternative renegades fighting big brother. Remember this commercial from 1984:

This strategy of “Us vs. Them” has worked for Apple for many years. It was established by the big dog himself based on the concept the “Whole Banana.” Which meant that Apple designed and built all their equipment; consequently, consequently avoiding competition of products within their company and creating that sense of community; and the idea that you must protect this community from foreigners that just didnt get the “Mac Lifestyle.”

If you want proof, just ask any “Mac girl or Mac guy” (you know who they are), about their Mac equipment and they will talk for hours on how special the Apple stuff really is. Want to get them pissed off? Tell them that the EVO is better than the iPhone.

But the community that has been so tightly knit together is starting to crumble. Just like Apple announced that 1984 will not be 1984; well you should mark 2011, which is 10 years after we were supposed to be flying trough space and talking to our pal Hal based on the film “2001: A Space Odyssey“, as the year the Mac community started to fall.

Why is that you may ask?

The answer is simple: Competition amongst iPhone users.

I was having lunch with a friend that happens to be a Mac Girl. During our lunch conversation, out of nowhere, she started talking about her “at&t” iPhone and telling me how much the “Verizon” version sucked! She informed me that the Verizon iPhone is actually the at&t iPhone 1 dressed like the at&t iPhone 4. I was like “shutup!” She continued letting me know that the at&t iPhone was better!

I ask you noble people of the internet: when have you heard a Mac person ever utter such words that anything is better than their Apple products? Worlds are colliding!

This has not happened before. And the discourse is all over forums and the comment sections of blogs where Mac people are attacking each other mercilessly. Just read the comment sections in the reviews by Wired Mag or Popular Science.

The community is falling apart and it is just a matter of time before they all open their eyes, stop drinking the Apple Kool-Aid, and realize that there actually better products being out in the market place than what Apple has to offer.

Those of you have heard of HTML 5 will know it’s a new version of HTML and XHTML being promoted by Google and Apple in a bid to move the web away from proprietary technologies like Flash, Silverlight and JavaFX. It makes HTML more powerful by adding new elements like video and audio. Now, where HTML5 does differs from its previous versions.
